Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | We need to come up an idea for our presentation. Let's start bouncing around some ideas. Connie and I were thinking about a lesson from one of the CMP units that deals with systems of equations. Other ideas??

Math Posts: 31 Location: Lafayette | Remember I also think we can find an activity using the CBR.

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | Connie or Nancy, did either of you find stuff on the activities we talked about. I thought those sounded like they have great potential.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | I need to get on that and see what I can find. I think Connie knew where her activity was located. We had also talked about using an activity from a CMP book but it was noy available when we asked Natalee about it this summer. I will check with her about the book.

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | What equiptment do we need for this activity? Chapter 9 will be here before we know it.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | Natalee has not received the CMP book yet that we were going to possibly use to get a presentation idea. We should probably come with another activity that we could use with systems of equations. Any ideas??? I think we should stick with a real life example, but I have been known to be wrong!

Math Location: IAKSS | We should get one soon! Just a matter of time for them to get to us. I specifically requested from the vendor again last week. These were just published within this month so we are not "really" behind! Stay tuned!!

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | So, the CMP book had a system of equations scenario dealing with mid air plane collisions. Given the recent events, I am not sure that is the wisest topic for a system. Maybe we can come up with something else. Does anyone have any ideas? I am trying to find something we can use with Geometer's Sketchpad. I think something with a visual component might be good. Connie, have you found the CBR activity you had mentioned?

Math Location: IAKSS | The Lafayette presentation will be on December 6 (unless you really want to go ahead on Monday, October 23?) The idea would be that you would share something about your systems of equations unit (you will have just taught this). Might share something "new" to the unit that you added for this year (this is where the idea of finding something in the CMP book started or using the CBR). We were hoping to be able to add and then share a "real life" example of systems. Will also share how the results were: share pretest results, posttest results, student feedback and teacher comments..... Hope that helps!!

Math Posts: 119 Location: Henry Clay | I was just eaves dropping in the Lafayette discussion area (can I do that?) and I just wanted to know if you found the systems of equations activity using the CBR? I have one and would be happy to make a copy and send to you if you would like it.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | I think an activity where the students are gathering data/actively involved would be the best idea for our presentation. Connie let us know when you get it and we can get together to work on the presentation. I am still looking at this CMP unit to see if it can be adapted in some way. Does anyone else have an opinion?

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | I looked at the activities you gave us to look at and I think I like the second one the best. They all seem to be about the same, but I really like the way the second one words the questions. Do we need to think of a senrio the kids will be playing out. Right now all I can think about is the Algebra II problems with Robin Banks and Willie Catcup.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | I think we could just ask the kids when we might use something like the activity - not necessarily give them a specific scenario. Although, that might make it more fun if we could come up with a good one. Has anyone else looked over the CBR/CBL activities?

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | Since we are all teaching or about to teach Chapter 9, shouldn't we get the CBR activity together soon!! I suggest we meet sometime this week, how about Wed, or Thurs. It would be nice to run through the activity, get the CBRs together, make a worksheet and have it all togeter. We also need to think about where this fits in the unit. On another note, I put together a notes guide for my students for chapter 9 since I have so many students who need notes guides because of various plans. If anyone wants it, just let me know and I will email it to you. I know Bryson, I can put it on MILC, but I want to make sure it doesn't have too many errors before I post it.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | We are going to looking at the CBR/CBL activity and the navigator activity we now have. Maybe we can be ambitious and present both!!

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | Where do you want to meet on Friday? I think your (Nancy's) room would be good because we have the navigator and the computers. I think we will need a lot of step by step calculator directions since these kids are not proficent with the calculuators. I looked at the Navigator actvity and I am a little confused on what we are doing with it.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | Kelley looked at it and thought it was good so maybe she can give us some insight. She is the navigator guru! What do you think?
