Math Location: Retired FCPS, Current UK and Transy | Watch for the upcoming movie called AGORA. Rachel Weisz (from The Mummy) plays Hypatia of Alexandria, the first recorded female mathematician. From the looks of the trailer she is portrayed more as a neophilosopher than mathematician and the movie seems more centered on the conflict between christianity and atheism instead of her contributions to mathematics but it still may have some relevance for the math classroom. We will have to see. Caution: the trailer references her slave lover so it may not be appropriate for all audiences. | ||
