Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | Hey all. I have been reading what they are talking about at HC and PLD. They both use the CPS system. Jason Reed says it is 1/100th the set up. Can we check into getting one for the math department? Who should we check with at LHS abiout maybe borrowing one to see if we like using it?

Math Posts: 50 Location: Tates Creek | Hi, Nancy. Actually, every high school got a CPS system last year (they were donated), so your school should already have one. Also - at the Teacher Resource Center behind LHS they have 2 sets of CPS systems you can check out. We use them here at TCHS as well & they really do work well with (as Jason said) very little set up involved.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | Thanks, Shannon. I am going to see if I can get my hands on a set here and try using it. Sounds like a great way to get all students engaged in the lesson.

Math Posts: 31 Location: Lafayette | Hey, Nancy: Have you had any luck checking into this? When is it we got one of these?

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | I know Mary Kay uses them a lot, so that would be a good place to start the scavenger hunt.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | I have the CPS in my room and I am trying to figure out how it works. I'll keep you posted....

Math Location: IAKSS | So, did you get the system up and running or is this going to be a great project for January??!!

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | I got it to work; now I just have to get the activities ready to use with it.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | I used the CPS today in computer programming and it seemed to go OK. The hardest part was the set up and just getting in there and figuring out how it all works.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | I am using the CPS system again today. I like it for computer programming. I am going to try and use it with part 2 and make up some multiple choice questions for them.

Math Location: IAKSS | Thanks for your updates, Nancy. Do you think more CPS systems would be a good addition for MILC for next year? or just too soon to tell....

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | I don't know. I think I need to use it a little more before I can say if it is worth it. It is lots easier to use than navigator.

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | Has anyone tried to use the game screen on the CPS? I think that is my favorite option. But I still feel like it takes a very long time for the set up and to enter in the questions. I think I need 36 hours in the day.

Math Posts: 31 Location: Lafayette | Hey, Nancy: I'm replying to your e-mail from last year!! We've got 2 at Lafayette Math now and I think there's a third in the building somewhere. We all need to try it.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | It really is lots easier to set up than the navigator. You just have have your questions/problems ready to go before hand. I haven't used it this year. Maybe I will try and work that in during 2nd semester.

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | Is there any place to find already set up question for the CPS, like there is for the navigator? That is what I find is the most time consuming.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | That would be really nice - to have a bank of questions to go with the CPS. I would like that for computer programming as well please!! Maybe we can get PD to write questions for algebra 1 or geometry....What do you think?

Math Location: IAKSS | There is a bank of questions on a CD (that cost $1000) and we purchased with MILC money for each school. Wonder who has the school CD? This would be SO helpful for you!!

Math Posts: 31 Location: Lafayette | Sarah and I have the new CPS systems so we'll look for that CD. Probably one of us has it. Sorry that we've been so slow to get moving on this stuff.

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | I have the CDs of questions, but I have not been able to navigate it very well. It is very difficult to find questions as you want them. Has any one else had trouble with that? Do you think we can save activites on our K: drive or is there going to be a programing error?

Math Location: IAKSS | If you save on an external drive, it will work okay. Everytime it will give you a warning that if the server goes down...you won't be able to access. It will want you to save on a Flash drive? (something locally). But you won't get an error that it wouldn't work properly. The only other thing I can think of is if 2 people wanted to use at the same time...this might cause issues, maybe? Tech support number is 888-333-4988 and that will be handy for you to use! Bottom line...it should work on the external drive.

Math Posts: 155 Location: Lafayette | Sarah, I can take a look at that CD and see if I can find a better way to navigate/save the questions.

Math Posts: 82 Location: Lafayette | Sure, Nancy! You might want to load the newer software on your computer too. That way you can also share the CPS. The software is not that hard to load. It is much easier than the flight attendant.
